Reviews of Hotjar
Best tool to find bugs and pain points in your site
Pros:
- Session Recordings - This really lets us know what are bugs and pain points in your site and having the timeline displaying tips were those actions were made is awsome (F.e, you can see in the timeline when the prospect is frustrated);- Heatmaps - This is very important to get an overall page knowing about what your prospects are clicking and looking
Cons:
The analysis can be very qualitative. I wanted to see more numbers, especially with the revolution of AI
Comprehensive analytics
Comments: Combines qual and quant data, allowing businesses for experimentation and ultimately, optimisation. Excellent tool, highly recommend.
Pros:
Initially used it as part of green field platform launch - really helped us understand user behavior (via heatmaps, session recordings, conversion funnels), which is always useful, but particularly crucial this early on in the product lifecycle. Integration and use can be done by most non-techies, which gave us time and space to focus our engineers where it really mattered. Surveys are also available (though should be used sparingly as we quickly learned too many can also be annoying for the customer :d).
Cons:
not really a con, but performance is something to consider when integrating
Tracking is constantly failing
Pros:
Just the fact of being able to record heat maps.
Cons:
Our account has been constantly going on and off with an alert about the tracking not being properly implemented. Later, without having changed anything seems to be resolved. It's been like this for 2 weeks now.
Super in-depth website analytics tool
Comments: Straightforward tool to get setup and running, helps sell changes internally using data (e.g. how visitors actually use our websites).
Pros:
In-depth tools to monitor visitor usage on our website, helps provide data for us to make decisions!
Cons:
Would love to see more automated insights on the products - sometimes you end up setting up a number of tools but never find the time to assess them.
Alternatives Considered:
The best heatmap software
Pros:
The best parts of Hotjar are the intuitive heatmaps, and visitor recordings, that offer deep insights into user behavior and user interaction based on real visitor data. Once you've implemented the tool - it's easy to of use to get all the data information from your users and visitors, to do research or to improve your website experience.
Cons:
The only issue besides the learning curve could include the sampling limits on larger sites, which may prevent you from getting a complete picture of visitor behavior.
an insightful tool in a user researcher's toolbox
Comments: Hotjar is with it's heatmaps and recordings is a powerful tool for understanding user behavior.
Pros:
I like Hotjar's heatmaps and recordings since they provide good insights into user behaviour. Same for tracking funnels and conversion rates in the user journeys.
Cons:
I find integrating with google analytics to interpret users' behaviour a bit confusing. and also I don't see a specific merit in using Hotjar's survey tool instead of other products built specifically for surveys.
Sports Use
Comments: This has been a great product to utilize and we've found values in using the tool.
Pros:
I value the fact that theres a tool that provides the necessary insights to make UX decisions or website layouts.
Cons:
Its not as interactive as it can be when showing exactly what actions users take as a weighted consumer.
A lot to monitor!
Pros:
The ability to use the heatmaps to monitor UX and provide visual representation to offer design alternatives.
Cons:
Difficult to breakdown specific users where other platforms have the ability to breakdown from campaigns etc. may have been the package though.
Satisfaction
Comments: Really self explanatory and easy to access
Pros:
the level of genuine feedbacks i get, on how to improve my product is really impressive and also the integration.
Cons:
IT is quite pricy but as time goes on you will enjoy it because of the results it brings .
Solid solution for conversion optimization
Comments: We used Hotjar to track website user sessions, looking for hangups that might prevent customers from converting on partner websites.
Pros:
We used as an additional tool to analyze customer UX by seeing live sessions.
Cons:
A little heavy from a performance standpoint.
Alternatives Considered:
Premium Solution for Improving UX and UI
Comments: Setup is easy- you just add a small snippet of code to the backend and you are ready to go. Customer support has always been very helpful we had questions or needed special assistance.
Pros:
Our company needed some user testing and session data after launching a new service with our clients that was in beta. The analytics and session recordings alerted us to so many issues that would have been looked over. Additionally, we constantly use the analytics and reports within Hotjar to identify areas of our website that could use improvement or are not being utilized by our customers. We are able to A/B test much more easily than with a product like Google Optimize. We are huge fans of Hotjar!
Cons:
The session recordings are great but there is currently no way to label the recordings, type comments or group them and organize them. As a result, it is very difficult to have hard data and numbers behind what the majority of users are doing or to go back and reference a user session. We end up looking through several and making assumptions based on what we saw in that group rather than relying on hard facts or better analysis.
Amazing tool for website strategy
Comments: Overall, the experience with the software was positive. Although it is a bit complex to use, it has excellent features.
Pros:
It was the best tool I've ever used to study the behavior of website users. It allows you to obtain incredible insights for the strategic management of websites.
Cons:
It is not very easy to use or configure. In terms of learning, it requires some time.
Heatmaps are just the best
Pros:
Really good and a lot of insights which is really helpful to understand our website
Cons:
Can be hard to setup, there is a lot to understand before using it.
New dimension for me
Pros:
I have learned a lot from customers thanks to Hotjar, a lot of things that would have gone unnoticed before. Heatmaps are a completely new way for me to think about data. I will use it more and more often
Cons:
The free version will always be (as they say), but for business needs you will have to turn to the paid ones

Hotjar Review
Pros:
Hotjar is a great tool for getting heatmaps of your website. And it can also be used for a other purposes as well like website monitoring, getting user feedback and analysing user experience. It has a ton portable f features.
Cons:
Although there are lot features, it may not be easy to deploy it on your website. They can make this process a little bit simpler so that everyone can do it.
Alternatives Considered:
Hotjar is a platform for getting feedback from website visitors.
Comments: Analysis tools include Heatmaps, Visitor Recording, Form Analytics, and Conversion Funnels, which let you watch and measure how our users act.
Pros:
Seeing how our site's visitors use it helps me figure out how to improve the user experience. The recording features let me see what people actually see on my site, which helps me find any problems. Heat maps will show us what our site visitors do and what they are interested in. I can also improve our conversion funnels and forms by finding out what needs to be fixed or improved. I also noticed that I don't have to worry about paying for a plan that works for everyone but doesn't fit my needs. Instead, it has different plans for people, businesses, and government agencies. This makes sure that I only pay for the features I want. Personal users with low traffic can even get a free plan that lets them add as many users as they want forever. Meanwhile, businesses will pay based on how many times their pages are looked at every day. The agency plans, on the other hand, give you a single account that can be used for multiple client sites.
Cons:
Prices could be better for new companies. Some things need to be worked on more. There should be ways to record multiple sessions at once in different parts of the site.
Hotjar provides insight every day.
Comments: Hotjar provides us with valuable insights into the behaviour and opinions of our clients. This we can make tangible use of when planing improvements to our service.
Pros:
Hotjar is very easy to use, and I get data insights delivered to my inbox every morning. I like the way we can easily implement popup surveys and data gathering without technical intervention.
Cons:
I would like greater integration with our core data.
Revenue First not Customer First Driven Company
Pros:
The support team and user interface of Hotjar are first in class. Over the last 5 years I have seen the product grow to become an industry leader. It is easy to implement and execute on the insights gained with Hotjar. I used full hearty recommended this product to everyone I have met.
Cons:
On November 25th, their pricing policy update also impacted us legacy account holders. It used to be that you paid per Organization. Ie if your Organization had 4 sites you would be pay for 1 account. Also if you were a old customer you maintained your original terms. However with the move to Billing v2, it is now changed to per site and new terms. What does this mean, a minimum price increase of 400%. Example old rate of 9 EUR for Plus was applicable to all sites within that organization, if that organization only had 1 site then 9 EUR, now it is 39 EUR. Obviously the more sites / higher the tier upgrade you have the higher price increase. Unfortunately this is not a pricing policy I can endorse and hence want to make it very clear that I no longer support Hotjar. It is an abusive pricing policy change. While the pricing is a matter of perspective, I do believe Hotjar still provides great value, it unfortunately shows a change in attitude towards their customer based who have helped develop all their years. Today it might just be pricing, but what is next? No more customer support similarly to how Facebook does it.
Effective for easy, quick and clear overview of webpage behavior
Comments: Been using it for 3 years now. For a low investment it gives you a sense of the effectiveness of your webpages. It is very easy to set up on your website and then it does the work for you. We implemented it when we renewed our website and when we changed menu's and core landingpages. Let it run for 3 to 6 months, so you have enough data, and then analyse and improve the visuals, text and structure of the webpages. Hotjar is a quick, easy and effective tool.
Pros:
Easy set up Quick integration with website (no tech support needed) Free plan to try out Creates heatmaps without asking
Cons:
Limited sessions per month on free Setting up funnels is difficult
Hotjar Review
Pros:
The UX videos really helps us make determinations on areas of website improvement.
Cons:
No way to grant Hotjar access for a single client without them gaining access to all of our clients.
I love it to understand how user goes throw the page
Pros:
The heatmap helps a lot to understand how the user navigates
Cons:
The surveys can be improved, there were a little basic, maybe because didn't used a lot.
Best Analytics Software
Comments: We use hotjar as a "testing" tool. We test our users and make the necessary changes to increase our sales. We monitor our user's actions, we learn and understand what people don't like, don't understand, what confuses them, what makes them leave, what they like and prefer and we adjust the interface, the products, the banners, the layout. It's cool!
Pros:
We love the funnel feature where I can setup funnels to track the conversions and drop-offs. Our whole business is based on sales funnels and Hotjar makes it very very easy to track users through our pages. The fact that we can later watch in a video our users activity is priceless. Device splitting is very useful because we can monitor all user's movement and make the proper changes.
Cons:
I've got nothing to comment here. Their free plan is very good and we know that many of our customers don't upgrade to paid plans because of that. The only thing I want to suggest users with shared hosting, if they have high traffic website, it may slow down the page load and it would be nice to upgrade to bigger server.
Alternatives Considered:
Best tool for user tracking and heatmaps!
Comments: I love using Hotjar! It helps me understand how users behave on my site, what they need, and how they feel. I can quickly see what pages they're visiting, how much time they're spending on each page, and where they're clicking. This information is really helpful in optimizing my client's sites.
Pros:
Hotjar is a great tool for understanding how users behave on your site: video tracking is the best part. By reviewing the videos I can see why customers abandon the shopping cart or why they don't scroll further down the blog.
Cons:
I would like to be able to isolate elements on the web page for individual analysis.
