Reviews of Zight (formerly CloudApp)
Excellent integrations, simple to use, and much more than a screencasting tool
Pros:
As the Head of Support, I use CloudApp on a regular basis. Sharing images, video demonstrations, and GIFs are simple and quick, and our clients like being able to see a video by clicking a single link without having to form an account. The ability to annotate also streamlines the process, and sharing is as simple as sending them a link, to which they may respond directly on the picture and video page. It's a comprehensive screen-capture video solution. It may be found in the Chrome taskbar. Intuitive and simple to use.
Cons:
There are occasional problems, as with most things, but the one that irritates me the most is that trying to screenshot a whole web page frequently fails. Despite the fact that you have the choice to complete the entire page, it will just do the visible section. The security to log in might be frustrating at times. I understand wanting to secure an account, but for me, it's simply screenshots and doesn't require that kind of security; nonetheless, I can see why they have it.

Alternative to loom
Pros:
I like a bunch of features with CloudApp: 1. Screen recording 2. Annotation 3. The files are stored in the cloud, so I never have to worry about files not being there or getting lost 4. Their online storage also allows to create folders which helps to manage files on the cloud 5. Many times we used to use wetransfer for file transfer, now we use cloudapp
Cons:
Sometimes it has hiccups when the windows is rebooted/turned on
Worst Customer Service I have ever experienced
Comments: We have been cloudapp customers for more than two years with 16 purchased seats. Lately we downsized because of corona and I was planning to reduce those seats to 5. Unfortunately I missed renewal window by one day, i.e. it has been renewed yesterday and I removed unused seats today. Then I contacted their customer support asking for refund. They said they don't give refunds for whatever reason. Yes, I understand it's in their terms and conditions, but it does not matter, it is still the worst customer service I have ever seen. Mistakes happen. I made a honest mistake, I was late with cancellation for just one day and they essentially stole my $1000+. I don't really know how else to call it other than stealing.
Pros:
I somewhat liked the software itself, even though it's pricey and there are plenty of alternatives.
Cons:
They don't have any customer service, what they have are account managers who always try to upsell you.
Love it - it improved a lot, can't imaging working without it now!
Comments: I use CloudApp on daily basis and it is very convenient and right now, during the Covid pandemic, it's probably the best way to provide updates to my co-workers.
Pros:
It is a convenient way to quickly record yourself, your screen, or both. The fact that the recorded videos are automatically uploaded and the only thing I have to do is send the link to my co-workers is very helpful. CloudApp has become my number one way to communicate with my team.
Cons:
The dedicated app seems to have a problem with my operating system, I needed to adjust a few things in order for it to work. In my experience, the browser version works better, however, I still encounter some problems, for instance, sometimes the app does not record my microphone sound, it happens very rarely but it can get quite annoying at times.
Fast working app for screen and video sharring
Comments: Sharing screen with comments, and making video with software/website problems couldn't be more simple.
Pros:
Shortcuts for everything. Really fast option for a screen share with comments for other persons. Shourctus for everything. I can't imagine daily work without cloud app
Cons:
I don't have. in these 5 years of cooperation, I needed support only once
Cloudapp is amazing for communication between engineers, designers, and pms.
Comments: Better teamwork/communication overall, especially for front-end development work. Also more flexibility for remote work (working from home for sickness/weather/holiday season).
Pros:
I love how fast everything gets generated and how easy it is to use. I work on the frontend team at my company, and I'm always sending videos and gifs to our designer for product review, as well as to our PM when filing issues. It's incredibly helpful to be able to take a quick video to show navigation flow, testing results, and edge cases, and it's way easier to have a visual than it is to explain things in technical terms. It's also wicked useful for remote work-- holiday season has made things kind of funky with everyone working from home, but I don't feel like I've lost on communication this time of year thanks to Cloudapp.
Cons:
There are times I wish I could annotate or crop videos. I will say though, Cloudapp has been great about steadily adding features, so I'm not too worried/it's not even a pressing issue haha.
This powerful screen capture and recording program has a new home on my desktop.
Pros:
I'm a former Snagit user that recently picked up CloudApp on an Appsumo deal. I'm glad I did, because this software has essentially replaced Snagit and helped me communicate ideas quickly with everyone including clients, customers, family and friends. The software sits in your system tray and allows 1 click recording or capturing of GIFs, video or screen. And once the capture is taken, it automatically uploads it and copies the link to your clipboard. Other helpful features include... Analytics Link shortening Annotations Search feature (priceless) Comments (can be disabled) Sync If you need a quick way to record screens and share them, this is it.
Cons:
I don't have any cons to list on this one. Everything from the UI to the features are well designed and operate properly.
Amazing App, I Wish There Was More 3rd Party Support
Pros:
In the cloud storage game, it's hard to battle against giants like Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon, and Box. But CloudApp is a spectacular cloud storage option that allows customization of the URL for links, privacy settings with either passwords or expiration dates, easy upload and share, almost everything you could want.
Cons:
Being that it is much smaller, it often goes overlooked by other services. I would love to see more places have CloudApp integration like they do Dropbox. While CloudApp is my preference, I end up still needing Dropbox or Drive because of the integrations and accessibility offered by those services.
Life saver
Comments: I've had a great experience with it. It's one of my favorite software. I hope you offer LTD again in the future.
Pros:
I'm a teacher. CloudApp has been very helpful for me. I share all kinds of file with my students. I've recorded tutorials and even shared PDF files. It's a great tool to have.
Cons:
I can't think of any cons. Keep up the good work, guys.
Excellent sharing service
Comments: Overall, CloudApp delivers the services that were the basis of its design. Nevertheless, development must continue.
Pros:
Allows me to create very short explanatory and demonstration videos to share with my collaborators.
Cons:
Very insecure platform. Recurring large file upload and download failures. The team must make an effort to develop other features with security as a priority.
Works great at picture and video recording
Comments: My experience with CloudApp has been very positive. it's easy to use and the automatically cloud save feature means I never lose my work. The ability to group media together and share it as collections has resulted in some really positive client reactions.
Pros:
CloudApp provides easy-to-access (via the system tray in Windows) screenshot and video recording ability that automatically uploads to the cloud for easy sharing. I've found it invaluable for taking quick information screengrabs that I can send to clients to show them how to do something, as well as for capturing stuff that I need to send to teammates for information.
Cons:
It can occasionally crash or hang, and you have to restart it to get it to work again. The user interface for the video recording can feel a bit clunky and hard to understand at first, but once you get the hang of it, it ends up working fine.
Lightweight but Powerful
Comments: It's been great. My team is constantly sharing screenshots or files with each other and as an admin of the account, I can see everything. It's also nice to be able to upload screenshots or proofs and send a link directly to the client. One of the features I like most is we have our domain set to a custom short domain instead of the cl.ly default domain. This helps us look professional and keep everything branded.
Pros:
I've used CloudApp since 2012 including some of their paid plans. It's easy to install the app and it only takes up a small space in my menu bar. I love how easy it is to upload by dragging and dropping or manually selecting a file. It's also nice that they'll host your files on their servers so even years later, I can find old files and share them again.
Cons:
Over the years they started to make features only for paid accounts which forced people to pay for the app. It's a minor inconvenience for us since we use it in a web development agency, and it's a crucial part of our sharing workflow, but that could potentially turn people away and make them use alternative apps like Dropbox.
A must have tool
Comments: I loved it and I doubt a week goes by when I do not use it multiple times.
Pros:
This is one of those tools that many people won't realize they need until they get used to using it. Yes, if you work in a support team then the usage case is obvious, and it excels at support, but it is so much more than that. How often do you have to try to explain something to someone and it takes forever in words, but a quick screenshot would do the trick. Problem with a screenshot is you have to remember the key combination to take it. Then you have to open up your email. Then attach the file to it, etc. With Cloudapp this is all simplified to an amazing degree. But it goes further than just screenshots. How about sending a 1 minutes video to your telco showing them that there is a problem with your bill, or even sending a document to someone without having to attach it to an email. Trust me. This is genius.
Cons:
The only little niggle is there are very occasionally glitches or outages, but to Cloudapps credit they do get them sorted and they are very polite at responding to emails.
Best drag-and-drop file sharing solution
Comments: CloudApp simplifies our workflow when we need to share screenshots and files to people outside of our organization. We highly recommend it!
Pros:
The reason we chose CloudApp is the MacOS integration in the menu bar. We used WeTransfer before, which required us to go to their website to upload files, but CloudApp allows us to just drag and drop our files to the menu bar, and it creates a shareable link for us.
Cons:
CloudApp successively increased its pricing, without much justification and added features. I was quite disappointed to see the lack of new features over the last 2-3 years. Also, storage prices dramatically decreased over time, so it's hard to understand why they keep increasing their prices.
Job (and life) changing
Comments: CloudApp has made adding screenshots and images to my blog posts incredibly easy. CloudApp has made giving additional context to colleagues simple by giving us the ability to take a screenshot of what we're talking about on the site. I have nothing negative to say about this tool other than it's set my expectations for similar tools so high that I'm usually disappointed by them.
Pros:
It's incredibly easy to use and reliable. You can take a simple screenshot, a gif, a video, and annotate it all within the app. It's quick, it's versatile, and it's incredibly functional. I use this tool every day, for every blog post, and for a number of different things. As a sales rep I used it for entirely different but equally important tasks.
Cons:
The only thing I wish I could do that I currently cannot is to go back into an annotation I've made after I saved. Sometimes I realize I've forgotten to note something, drawn a border incorrectly, or some other minor edit and am unable to go back into the original screenshot/gif to fix it. It's not a terribly big issue because of how simple it is to go back and take another screenshot or gif.
Best Screenshot and Desktop Recording Tool
Comments: Quick and easy screensharing.
Pros:
It is quick and easy to use with lots of great features like annotate, share with a link, or share the original file. It has great shortcut keys that you can reprogram if you happen to have a competing app with built-in sharing to lots of other collaboration services like Slack and Trello.
Cons:
There is not much that I don't love about this software. It runs silently in the background and never asks me to give it a review.
Great tool for sharing images on the fly
Pros:
I love how quick it is to snap a screenshot and paste it into a slack conversation. I don't have to save an image to my computer and pollute my desktop, i simply copy paste the link and it expands nicely into the conversation.
Cons:
I don't need to receive an email every time someone opens a link i've shared, but i can probably disable the function, i just haven't done it.
Excellent way to share recordings or screen captures when a call isn't possible
Comments: I use it every day to share screenshots and recordings with clients and colleagues.
Pros:
CloudApp is a lifesaver on a daily basis! I use it to make sure I'm understanding I'm on the same page as my clients, to send screenshots to help instruct them on how to use something, or to collaborate with my teammates. I absolutely love that it automatically copies the link for you to paste into an email or Slack too. For such a simple software it absolutely crushes it!
Cons:
I feel like screenshot or video editing can be a little buggy at times. Sometimes it won't save the changes I make which can be annoying to have to go back and re-do them.
Complete Sharing - Head to Toe!
Pros:
Cloudapp replaces the system screenshot macro (If you want it) which makes integration into current workflows seamless. Cloudapps mark up and quick edit tools are actually useful, and fast! Custom domains for the links you're providing. Asset expiration. Photo, video, GIF.
Cons:
There's nothing I don't like about Cloudapp. It does what it says and it does it well. I'm glad to have Cloudapp installed and use it easily hundreds of times a day.
CloudApp will solve all your screen capture needs and more.
Comments: I love CloudApp, despite the fact of it being a paid service, I see the value it can bring to big businesses with lots of back and forth communication on a daily basis.
Pros:
I love the link-sharing features where you can just take a screenshot and share it with anyone via just a short link without much more effort than copy & paste. One great thing about it is that you can even record your screen for a short period of time and also share it/
Cons:
I don't like that this is a paid service that comes with a little do a high mark for what it does since you can also just use the keyboard commands to capture anything and share it another way rather than a link.
Screen Sharing is Fun With CloudApp
Pros:
Just remember one shortcut keys combination to capture your screen (or two if you also want to record your screen), and you are good to go. Anytime you need to share anything on your screen, hit the key combo, and you'll get the link to the image/video ready to share.
Cons:
There's no option to capture a window, and you can't pre-set the image/video size.
Helpful Features; Free version as well but more limited
Pros:
I love that I can quickly capture my screen or create a video (with webcam and audio as options) to share with a customer that I'm serving (or a team member to view). The annotation tools are incredibly helpful as well.
Cons:
At times the video doesn't save/upload properly, causing some frustration until resolved. This doesn't happen often (and never using the free version for some reason), but is frustrating when it does.
Cloudapp - A really handy app to have in your arsenal.
Comments: It has been great when it comes to showing both clients and staff, quick explainers.
Pros:
ITs simplicity.. Want to make a video or annotate a screenshot, it can be done in seconds. it then gets automatically uploaded online, and it gives you a link straight away to send to a client etc
Cons:
it can be a bit buggy at times when recording video over 2minutes. This can cause issues where i make a video, and once i finished, it says that it didnt record properly.
CloudApp is great for easy screenshots or taking a video of your computer.
Pros:
I love how easy it is to take a screenshot - and that you can select the size of said screenshot. It's also nice to edit the image captured and copy the content into a message. The speed is also a plus! Creating videos is also fairly easy and I love that after the video uploads I receive an alert with the link to the video already ready to go.
Cons:
I've used CloudApp on both a Mac and a PC. CloudApp appears to be more sluggish for use with PCs and edited images are trickier to save. Far less issue with this using the Mac. Occasionally, the image or video I've made fails to load, which can be extremely frustrating as I need to start over.
One of the most useful tools that I installed in my computer
Pros:
You can capture your screen and have a shareable link practically in one go. Just press the shortcut key combination and select the area that you want to capture.
Cons:
Users can't pre-define the size of an area to be capture.
