Pros:

Price is reasonable, and even the cheapest subscription plan provides a significant amount of transcription time. It takes relatively little time to upload and transcribe recordings.

Cons:

I synced my calendar, but it started picking up things I didn't want to record and became annoying, so I disconnected it.

Alternatives Considered:

Otter: Easy to Use Middlemarket English Transcription

4.0 11 months ago

Comments: Otter is easy to use and would make a great edition to your corporate toolbelt. However, it's per user price and issues with certain speakers, mean that this might be your backup choice insofar as transcription.

Pros:

Otter is easy to use and can even record directly from your microphone (thus getting around the rigamarole of inviting the AI assistant into specific meetings/dealing with outages.

Cons:

Otter can only really transcribe English, and even then fast speakers, individuals with heavy accents, or irregular speech patterns (repeated use of 'uh' , 'ah' and other fillers, raising and lowering one's voice multiple times in a sentence, etc) seems to baffle it.

Poor install

2.0 4 months ago

Comments: Not great the set up from the provider and the third-party provider Epos now was really exhausting and we currently are still off-line because we cannot differentiate between breakfast and lunch cut off period

Pros:

Not much really, while The back of house looks easy to use, I found it in reality not

Cons:

The install and set up where you only get an allocated half an hour from an advisor was no good

Makes capturing meetings a breeze

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: Really impressed. Would never go back to regular note-taking.

Pros:

Note-taking and detail is critical in my line of work, and Otter helps me and my team accurately collect and capture information. It's made life so much easier.

Cons:

Sometimes it's inaccurate – but that is easily resolved by playing back the recording and the timestamps feature solves any mistakes quickly.

Great note taking.

5.0 last year

Pros:

The product is great, it takes notes whether I am on the call or not and summarizes them by topic. I often use the transcriptions to reference notes from a meeting or those that I missed.

Cons:

Limited time recording - I believe only 30-45 minutes. Maybe since we're on the trial version.

It's good...

4.0 last year

Comments: It's transcription is really great. Search-ability is good, could be better. A full search for 'all my meetings with X person' or all meetings talking about X would be great.Export tools are lacking, but understandable. It's the kind of tool that can be a lifesaver.

Pros:

It connects with your calendar (but only one) so you can just click your meeting and hit record. That's fantastic. It keeps all metadata present (who, what) so you can come back to it.

Cons:

The bot kept joining meetings without me and it wasn't obvious how to stop this. Most abrasive on Teams meetings where everyone gets a notification that my robot has started the call. Then sends aggy emails about how nobody was in the meeting. Somewhat amusing, sometimes embarrassing when on client.

There are better transcribers out there

2.0 9 months ago

Comments: For a free version, there are far better call transcribers, even paid versions. If you have to worry if there will be missing parts and frequently incorrectly transcribed words, it makes the use of it void.

Pros:

It was easy to link up to Zoom and read through the transcription.

Cons:

The transcriptions that were given were often cut off and incorrect, so having to go over them again, including the summary made using Otter void. At least the free version.

Great product for reviewing meeting info

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: It's been outstanding as in meetings it's sometimes hard to get all the information needed.

Pros:

I like the option for both text and voice for review. It has been very easy to navigate through the notes and helps with reporting.

Cons:

There haven't been any cons to the software. Nothing at this point that I can say I dislike. It's a click of a button and your ready to go.

Generally accurate transcription and easy to use service

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: Overall, I'm happy with Otter. It has sped up my work tenfold - instead of having to sight and transcribe interviews for an hour and a half I'm able to get it automatically transcribed in no time and then just spend 10-15 minutes cleaning it up.
Excellent product - accuracy is good, speed is good and usability is excellent.

Pros:

Otter is incredibly easy to use, where in 'live transcription' or recorded transcription. The transcription itself is generally accurate. There are mistakes (I'd be astounded if there weren't) but it gets the transcription generally correct and then it is a pretty easy process to skim through it and edit the text as appropriate (editing is an absolute breeze!)

Cons:

The payment tiers are a little restrictive - you don't get much for free with the service.

Great option for transcribing and easily keeping track of minutes of meeting

5.0 3 years ago

Pros:

It keeps track of all the minutes of meetings by transcribing them in real-time. One can easily search the word and go to the timestamp of the video rather than watching the whole video to search for something. Transcribing the meeting becomes really powerful as it saves time for a recap and filters out all the important information with the advanced search option. I like that one can directly record an audio for transcription without needing to connect to meeting app.

Cons:

In my experience the quality of transcription I get in Otter varies a lot depending on the microphone or headset I am using. For some headsets, the transcription does not work as well when compared to others even though all my headsets are of good quality. The quality of transcription varies especially as different people in meetings can have different speaker volumes and accents. The upload time for pre-recorded zoom videos is too long in my experience, take about an hour for a 1 Gb file.

Great for the Classroom

5.0 3 years ago

Pros:

I am a second career student and can't remember things as well as I used to. I user Otter to record my classes and then listen to the parts I struggled to remember. It works out great, even if I am not sitting in the front row. Even when the transcription isn't before because of uncommon words, the audio is strong enough to allow me to override the text.

Cons:

Sometimes it seems like the transcription can take a while. I synced my calendar, but it started picking up things I didn't want to record and became annoying, so I disconnected it.

If you work for a remotely connected company, this is essential

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: This app is helpful in picking up keywords and finding the location in the zoom call where that keyword was discussed. But i think without the zoom recording alongside the transcripts, they are not much help for our needs. It would be interesting to see how this app's transcriptions compare with competitors like Fathom.

Pros:

With so many zoom meetings, it's really helpful to be able to search transcripts to see who said what, or what the final word was on a discussion.

Cons:

The AI transcription could be a lot better. The punctuation is off and maybe people talk too fast but it's rarely accurate. You have to do a lot of deciphering to determine what people we really saying, or listen along with the zoom recording. I don't know if all ai note taking apps are like this though. I also wish that it would capture everyone's name from the zoom meetings, for some reason only some names are captured and others are just listed as "Speaker 1" or "Speaker 2",etc.

Essential for our interviews

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: As a nonprofit media organization with a team of volunteer reporters, Otter makes it easy for us to capture every interview and get stories written in an efficient way.

Pros:

Otter works seamlessly as a desktop or mobile app, making recording and transcription available wherever our reporters may be.

Cons:

Otter recently reduced the free version of the software to 30 minutes of transcription, rather than 45.

Using Otter to Transcribe Sermons

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: Otter helps me, as a pastor, to get a written transcription of a previously-preached sermon. This is helpful because I don't normally write out my manuscripts on the front end, but rather, just a fleshed-out outline. Having a written transcript, thanks to Otter, will help me if I ever decide to preach these sermons again in the future in a different venue.

Pros:

I loved how Otter helps me transcribe my previously-preached sermons so that I can conduct effective "post-game analysis." Specifically, I can go back and see the variety of words I used when I preached; how repetitive I was; and what was the level of complexity or difficulty of the individual words I used.

Cons:

The one thing I found particularly frustrating about this software was the amount of time it takes to upload an audio file to Otter... it would sometimes take over twenty minutes to upload one of my sermon audio files in order for it to be transcripts. I also didn't like that the free version of Otter cuts off an audio file at the 45 minute mark, as I tend to preach about 50 minutes (so I often miss out on the last five minutes).

Life-saver for taking notes and making transcripts

5.0 2 years ago

Pros:

Otter offers highly accurate audio transcription and recording. The best part is that you can click on phrases and sentences in a transcription to replay the corresponding recording. The software can identify new voices/speaker chances as well. This is a god-send for saving time and improving accuracy for transcribing meets, podcasts, or videos.

Cons:

The free version only allows 30 minutes of transcription at a time. If you need to record/transcribe longer than that however, you can just start a new transcription recording.

Perfect for Taking Notes

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: I now don't take any notes. I just hit record and have a natural conversation, which is so much more useful in my line of work.

Pros:

I love the ability to take photos of something that will appear in the transcription exactly where we are discussing it. The ability to recognize past speakers is really useful. It does a lot even in the free version.

Cons:

They recently started restricting free users to a transcription limit. It's not too bad, and you can work around it by just started a new voice recording, but it's less helpful than before. Not enough to stop using it though.

Great for transcribing

4.0 4 years ago

Pros:

I stumbled upon this while looking for a software to transcribe an audio. It does the job wonderfully. I also noticed that you can connect different apps like google calendar and zoom and set reminders to record meetings which I love. It's also user friendly.

Cons:

Not enough minutes for the Basic(Free) account.

Easy to use

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: My board game co-designer and I use Otter to record playtesting feedback, which allows us to review those notes later and send them to each other when we're doing separate tests. Very handy and easy to use.

Pros:

I like that it's easy to set it up and then forget about it and trust that it's getting the information that you need.

Cons:

It used to be free, so it was really nice when you had unlimited recording time.

Great Personal Assistant

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: As a business analyst, I was looking for the amazing functionality and experience of Gong.io, but less intrusive on the call, less formal, but just as transcriby . SnagIT and Otter.ai give me what I need to take better notes as a business analyst, quickly get the action items, with traceability to

Pros:

Love the ease of uploading recorded audio files. The system doesn't use human transcription services, but AI speech-to-text. Love the price more than Rev or Audiate.

Cons:

The browser recorder doesn't record the system audio. I wanted a tool to record what was being spoken in my headset. My alternative is I use SnagIT to record a small part of my screen. SnagIT records the system speakers and my mic, and I upload to Otter.AI. Otter was harder hard to find this amongst a sea of other competing software. My search term was: cloud ai transcription software for transcribing recordings.

No hassle, No learning curve, Just transcriptions

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: It's been nothing but fun. It's so simple to use and there's nothing to it. Just upload your files and the app does the rest.

Pros:

I noticed there were few errors in my transcripts so that's a plus considering the fact it's using an A.I technology mechanism It renews my free trial with free transcription credits every month. This is insane value If you are on a budget. It's important for me to focus on my client's pain points and this app helps to search specific keywords in Zoom conversation recordings that I have with my clients. I don't like taking notes so this feature was helpful.

Cons:

It's still is an A.I so the possibility of margin of errors abounds. I tried transcribing my voice but the app got some words horribly wrong.
