Comments: We use mattermost for team communication in presencial and remote job. We change from mail communication to chat communication

Pros:

Main features for us: easy use, on site option, boards and channels and easy API

I shifted from Slack and I have never experienced any drawback on Mattermost.

Mattermost user for more than 2 years -- here's my review

Pros:

1. If you like a free messaging tool for your team, Mattermost might be for you. It is like a knock-off version of Slack. 2. It has a mobile app that can be accessed both in PlayStore and AppStore. 3. I love its customized emoji functionality! You can also react to each reply so it is very desirable for me. 4. Even though it is free, your messages do not expire and be auto-deleted, unlike in Slack -- I love this feature.

Cons:

1. Reply functionality is a bit of a hassle because your replies tend to be a little bit scattered, unlike in Slack where it is more neat and organized.

Internal Communication Matters Most in Every Organization

Pros:

Mattermost has a mobile application which I use on a daily basis to send files and collaborate vi a instant messaging.

Cons:

To conference through video calls it requires to be integrated with external apps.

In our entire construction agency, we rely on Mattermost on matters of web conferencing and BIM.

Even though it synchronizes messages after connecting to the internet, it doesn’t support offline access.

Pros:

Ever since I started using Mattermost, it has never been daunting to send large files online, collaborate via unlimited communication channels and manage projects automatically.

Cons:

I do not like how Mattermost can’t function in absence of mobile data or WiFi.

Mattermost Matters Most in Our Agency

Pros:

Mattermost boost productivity by unifying teams in my organization in one single workspace through corporate communication channels.

Cons:

Video conferencing isn’t robust enough that’s why it demands to be integrated with external web conferencing systems like Zoom Meetings.

My Remarkable Experience with Mattermost.

Pros:

It enhance real-time group chatting.It is enhance seamless and secure team communication and collaboration.It is highly scalable.It is simple and fast to orchestrate and automate complex and repetitive workflows and projects with Mattermost.

Cons:

Mattermost lacks video conferencing feature unless it's been integrated with other external applications.

At the moment, Mattermost has no bugs and accomplishes all my daily needs.

All we need for successful communication

Pros:

Easy to use and very user friendly UI. You can edit messages even after sending. Tag people whom you want the message to be seen in a channel. Easily accessible channels. It's a great open source application.

Cons:

Screen sharing, calling and video conferencing option is not available which makes us dependent on other apps. Last seen online is not displayed which should be available.

Mattermost for connecting/supporting

Comments: It was good initiative for collaboration amongst various teams, it helped us resolve the tickets sooner with better precision and in the process educate everyone on the issue if they see similar issue in future

Pros:

It was really helpful in connecting teams from L1 through L4 support on one platform where anyone can help resolve problem at hand. Really helped us reduce overall tickets getting escalated to the L2 through L4 teams

Cons:

Don’t have option to share screen, send files/screenshots which are really helpful for resolving/understanding the issue

Great user acceptance and ease of use

Pros:

The interface is pretty much self-explanatory. This is why the user acceptance is quite good. Customizing the interface is straight forward and can be done at user level. The open source cummunity around Mattermost is really nice and welcoming. Apps for every operating systems are available and easy to use once manually set up. Scalability was never a problem with 1000+ users.

Cons:

Setting up integrations is more complex than with Slack, where integrations can be installed with one click in the backend. There is an app directory, but the apps need to be set up manually. Once set up, they just work. Incoming webhooks are the only exception; they work out of the box. Mobile perfomance is gradually getting better, but it's not yet up to Slack's par. The Windows-app is not yet ready for big scale rollouts via group policies.

A good alternative to Slack

Comments: We ended up looking for an alternative to Mattermost because of Slack's price-performance ratio and would switch again today.

Pros:

Mattermost is constantly being developed and you can tell that it's going further. In addition, as a collaboration tool, it provides the most important information. No more and no less.

Cons:

At the beginning (approx. 2018) it was still a bit unstable and some important features were still missing. This has gotten much better in 2022. Over the years, with many users, maintenance and upkeep should never be neglected. Otherwise it will be slow and have long loading times when changing channels etc. Plugins work, but not all are mature (e.g. Jitsi caused problems for us)

Best Slack alternative

Comments: It was our daily communication tool between the team. We used it to share information and discuss about initiatives. We used that tool during a non-pandemic period but I think it will probably be successful during the times being because of the increase of remote work. We finally decided to switch to Slack.

Pros:

It's an open source application that fits good when you also work with gitlab, with was our case. Its cost is considerable lower than Slack when having a lot of users. It fulfills its function, it allows you to communicate with your team just as you would with slack, and it has many integration plugins so you can connect it with many other apps.

Cons:

As a user I didn't see any problem using the application. It was usable and efficient enough. Mobile application was not so good at that moment, but the web app worked fine!

Great tool for internal communication / discussion

Pros:

Mattermost is my go-to tool when you want to discuss something with colleagues. Ability to create public/private channels and send private messages both work nice and easy.

Cons:

No so great for file sharing and doesn't work as a discussion tool outside your organisation.

Communicate with in the Organization

Comments: Overall my experience is good. I would not prefer to chat as DM but yes for a company it is good

Pros:

I like the most in it is a simple and easy-to-use platform within the company. People can make their channels and set the privacy of those channels which is a great thing

Cons:

I don't like the UI of the matter most its too simple. There should be graphics like skype or discord

Quickly ping a colleague!

Comments: It is easy to deploy among a large scale corporation, as my company has been using it for over 1 year. Previously we used Hipchat, which did not have as many features or functionality. I honestly cannot say enough about Mattermost

Pros:

Texting like platform creates a wonderful way to ping someone of your activities, needs, or simply to communicate. Excellent way to notify a coworker quite quickly without needing to move and converse. I love the ability to switch on and off the auditory aspect of the application. The group option is cool as well. With large companies, you can jump in and out of groups, such as "support" groups or "tech" groups to quickly answer pressing needs, and then jump back out.

Cons:

Simple integration into business- you just need a computer or smartphone/tablet to really utilize this software. There isn't anything I don't like about this product, very well used and liked by the whole company.

Slack substitute with similar features

Comments: I don't know about the overall cost, but I assume it costs less than Slack. Given that, it's not a bad alternative. I think it's main issues aren't so much limitations in functionality as just having a less user-friendly UI overall.

Pros:

honestly, the most use we get out of this product is having fun with the wide range of emojis you can add to posts as reactions

Cons:

There's something slightly less intuitive about the UI than similar competitors (i.e., Slack). Sometimes the search function in particular is confusing and could definitely be improved.

I run my own instance to chat with my friends since long time (40984 messages from ~15 users)

Comments: Better communication and project management, easy notifications and less mail exchange.

Pros:

In fact, I enjoy how data are linked by channel and hashtag, to plug it easily to integrate it w/ existent tools.

Cons:

Not a lot to say here, native gif integration is missing and more command to activate some sounds or i don't know.

Very good system, especially because you can host it for free.

Comments: Better communication on a company level.

Pros:

You can host it for free. Markdown support. Gitlab Integration and updates. Easy to administrate.

Cons:

There are many mature alternatives. Lacks some features or has them but you need to do way to much setup. Doesn't feel as polished as others. Mobile app is getting better, but still not up to the competition.

Great product, recommend it to everyone, and best of all

Pros:

The use of web sockets and consistency between platforms and ability to self host the software. Open source is also a high point.

Cons:

Lack of asymmetric end-to-end encryption. Would like to see server side ability to enable/disable this feature, as well as seeing it as either mandatory or opt-in for each chat session. Would be best if each client would generate a key-pair and give public cert to the server and each other client signed/encrypted it with the public key.

Great alternative to Slack, especially for the price

Pros:

It's very simple to use and much much cheaper than its competition. Persistent chat is beneficial when working with teams across multiple time zones -- email notifications when I'm not signed in is great.

Cons:

There is something that's somewhat intangible but for some reason Slack feels better. Slack seems more elegant, but overall, this is the only negative thing I could find about the software. Overall it meets and exceeds my team's needs for a fraction of the price.

I don't know what I'd do without Mattermost

Comments: tool is great, and from this users perspective is a fine alternative to slack.

Pros:

It's very easy to use, and as far as I can tell works alot like slack. I'm not sure if it has as many plug-in options but that's not something I'd use anyway. Great for team collaboration and general communication.

Cons:

I get LONG LISTS of rooms and chats and there is no easy way to search for people aside fom doing a control-f. I can search within chats, but I think it needs to be easier to search FOR chats
